The Pokémon GO craze has officially taken over Hollywood with the release of Maroon 5’s latest soundtrack, Don’t Wanna Know.
Though the song is for lovers who broke up but the video’s storyline shows how harassed pokémons are by running for cover constantly. My first thought on seeing the video was how mismatched it is to the lyrics and feel of the song.
Adam dresses up as one of the pokémons being chased around – he goes about doing the regular stuff like waking up on an alarm clock, making breakfast, doing yoga, driving his convertible to go to the gym, all the while keeping out of sight of pokémon catchers. Meanwhile, the lyrics go something like:
I don’t wanna know, know, know, know
Who‘s taking you home, home, home, home
And loving you so, so, so, so
The way I used to love you, no
I don’t wanna know, know, know, know
Who’s taking you home, home, home, home
And loving you so, so, so, so
The way I used to love you, oh
I don’t wanna know.
I guess conceptually it’s like Adam is trying to escape the information overload from his ex on social media in the same way the pokémons are trying to escape cellphone-brandishing kids.
The video soundtrack also features Sarah Silverman as Adam’s ex who keeps showing him what he’s missing.
The song also has a verse from Kendrick Lamar although he doesn’t show up in the video at all. Towards the end of the video, there’s also a cameo by Vince Vaughn which is reminiscent of Wedding Crashers.
Adam and Vince are seen to have a little pokémon-ish chat over drinks where they discuss the troubles of their life, especially the need to constantly escape cellphone-crazed kids. Adam says, “I’m hot, I’m uncomfortable. I’m sweating my ass off running away from these f***ing kids.”
Well, just a guess, I think they were referring to the paparazzi over here 😉
All right, here’s the complete video for you!:)
